The Society of Women Engineers Sonora Region is excited to announce the 2014 Regional Conference in San Diego.  Located on Mission Bay in beautiful San Diego, SWE will gather for a weekend filled with networking, workshops, and technical and non-technical tours.

Along with the workshops and tours, a career fair will be held on Saturday. Other opportunities during the weekend include a networking social, regional meetings, three keynote speakers, and a collegiate transition reception. Online registration closes February 23rd!

About the conference: This conference is attended by over 500 professionals and college students in engineering. The goal of the conference is to promote development and awareness of other opportunities in the engineering community. The conference promises exciting and educational speakers, informative workshops, technical and local area tours, socials, career opportunities and more!

Keynote Breakfast: Jovita Jenkins, MBA, PCC – Author of Get Out Of Your Own Way – Create The Next Chapter Of Your Life and Leadership Coach 

Jovita Jenkins, MBA, is a success strategist, executive/leadership coach, educator, and author.  She is a premier coach/mentor to professionals who want to get out of their own way, maximize their career satisfaction, improve their leadership and communication skills, and enhance the quality of their lives.  Her passion is helping others recognize and grow their leadership potential, identify the hidden pipelines to success within their organizations, develop core leadership competencies, expand their sphere of influence, and implement action plans for greater workplace success.

Jovita is a trail-blazing pioneer who walks her talk!  Her unique background includes forging a stellar career in the male-dominated aerospace industry, starting as an engineer, and culminating as an executive.  She left corporate America to leverage her hard-won wisdom to help others master the skill sets needed to more effectively lead in organizations, manage challenging situations and people, and overcome roadblocks to their success.

Author of the highly acclaimed book, Get Out Of Your Own Way – Create The Next Chapter Of Your Life, Jovita is a nationally known speaker on topics of success, leadership, and transformation.  She holds BS and MS degrees in Math, an MBA from UCLA’s prestigious Anderson School of Business, and is certified as a professional coach through the International Coach Federation.

State of SWE Lunch: Stacey DelVecchio – Manager at Caterpillar Inc. and President of Society of Women Engineers

As a manager for Caterpillar Inc., Stacey DelVecchio leads an engineering pipeline transformation project to ensure the best engineering talent is available to meet enterprise needs. She is also responsible for the engagement strategy with professional external organizations, as well as the science, technology, engineering, and math education (STEM) strategy.

In her more than 23 years with Caterpillar, DelVecchio has worked in process and product development for nonmetallic components, production support for paint and process fluids, and the build and start-up for a green-field facility in China. A certified Six Sigma Black Belt, she earned that classification by working on projects that included lean manufacturing, failure analysis, and employee engagement. Previously, DelVecchio was the hose and coupling engineering manager, as well as the new product introduction manager for Cat Fuel Systems. Most recently, she managed the project management office for Caterpillar engines with responsibility for the project management of all new product introduction programs, continuous improvement projects, and cost reduction project in the division.

A SWE life member of the Central Illinois Section, DelVecchio holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Cincinnati. Her previous SWE experience includes the Corporate Partnership Council, strategic planning committee, conference programming board, awards committee, and Society treasurer.  She is excited to be serving as the current president of the Society.

Awards Dinner: Anne Shen Smith – Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Southern California Gas Company

Anne Shen Smith is chairman and chief executive officer of Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), a Sempra Energy California regulated utility. SoCalGas is the nation’s largest natural gas distribution utility, delivering outstanding service to over 20 million consumers in more than 500 communities through a dedicated team of over 8000 employees. Previously, Smith served as the chief operating officer, Senior Vice President of Customer Services and Vice President of Environment and Safety for SoCalGas. She started her career with SoCalGas in 1977 and held leadership positions in marketing, public affairs, strategic planning, regulatory affairs, and operations.

Smith immigrated to the United States from Taiwan in 1964. She received her bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Michigan and has a master’s degree in industrial engineering and operations research from the University of California at Berkeley.
