The “SWEeter Futures Outreach Program” is a unique program to the Sonora Region, which tracks the impact we have on the future of engineering by sharing engineering, math, and science with K-12 students during FY10. Our goal is impact to 10,000 students!!!

We need every professional and collegiate SWE section in the region to get involved and make an impact on the future of  engineering science, and math with students in K-12! Every outreach event your section hosts will count toward the impact-to-10,000  goal.   Need some outreach ideas?  Try one of these:

  • Hands-on Demonstration/Workshop
  • Presentation/Lecture (single instructor, not hands-on)
  • Presentation/Lecture (multiple instructors, not hands-on)
  • Panel Discussion
  • Demonstration Booth/Table (not hands-on)
  • Career Demonstration (i.e., “Career Day”)
  • Mentoring (one-on-one)
  • Mentoring (group)

Help track your section’s impact by using the following link to record your activities:

The website will be updated weekly to show the current section rankings.  Stipends will be awarded to the top three sections with the most points (on a weighted, ratio of members-to-students).  Keep checking back to see where you rank!!

If you have any questions, please contact Kerrie Greenfelder, Region B Outreach Committee Chair at Kerrie.Greenfelder@swe.org.

Calculation for how the FY10 “SWEeter Futures Outreach Program” winners will be selected:

Points will be assigned to the various events based on impact to the K -12 students:

  • 1 point for each K-12 student impacted during outreach activity with no hands-on participation
  • 3 points for each K-12 student impacted during outreach activity with hands-on participation

A ratio will be determined using the following calculation:

Ratio = (Total Points Accumulated by Section) / (Number of Members in Section*)

* Note: Final SWEeter Futures Outreach Program winners will be calculated using June 2010 membership numbers.

The TOP THREE professional or collegiate sections with the highest ratios will be awarded a stipend!  The stipend is to be used by the section for future outreach activities and the top three award winners are required to prepare a one-page write-up about the fund use before October 15, 2010.

Remember, FIRST PLACE will receive $1,500, SECOND PLACE will receive $1,000, and THIRD PLACE will receive $500!!!
